About Us

Our Story
Precision Piano Craft is a family-owned and operated workshop built on an unyielding dedication to old-world craftsmanship and technical precision, founded and led by Dr. Victor Soto.
Dr. Soto is an accomplished concert pianist, educator, and master piano technician whose career brings together professional musicianship, higher education, and the specialized craft of piano technology. He serves on the music faculty at Dallas College.
Dr. Soto has been servicing pianos professionally since 2006 and has pursued extensive specialized training in the United States and Europe. His technical education began in his native Panama City, Panama, where he completed a four-year apprenticeship under Master Piano Technician Simon Yau, a graduate of Yamaha’s piano technical training school in Hamamatsu, Japan. Since then, Dr. Soto has continued to advance his expertise through specialized training with many of the world’s leading piano manufacturers and technical institutions.
His training includes the Renner Academy at Renner USA headquarters in Scottsdale, Arizona; Yamaha USA in Buena Park, California; the C. Bechstein Technicians Academy at the C. Bechstein factory in Seifhennersdorf, Germany; the C. F. Theodore Steinway Academy at the Steinway & Sons factory in Astoria, New York; the Schimmel Pianos factory in Braunschweig, Germany; Julius Blüthner Pianofortefabrik in Großpösna, Germany; and the Fazioli piano factory in Sacile, Italy.
Dr. Soto has also received specialized training at the Precision Touch Design Academy Europe, further developing his expertise in piano action analysis, geometry, regulation, and performance optimization. His rebuilding education also includes training at the distinguished Klangmanufaktur rebuilding workshop in Hamburg, Germany, where he gained additional experience with European approaches to high-level piano restoration and rebuilding.
This combination of American and European factory training has provided Dr. Soto with firsthand exposure to different philosophies of piano design, manufacturing, regulation, voicing, and restoration. His technical specializations include piano tuning, concert regulation and voicing, precision touch design, soundboard calibration, action and scale design, and complete piano restoration. His work encompasses both modern and historic instruments and combines traditional craftsmanship with contemporary diagnostic and technical methods.
Dr. Soto is an active member of the Piano Technicians Guild (PTG), maintaining a strong connection between professional practice, continuing technical education, and the broader piano technology community.
As an educator, Dr. Soto brings his experience as a concert pianist and working piano technician directly into the classroom. He has been instrumental in the development of the Dallas College Piano Technology Program, where students receive structured, hands-on training designed to prepare them for professional careers in piano tuning, maintenance, repair, regulation, rebuilding, and related areas of the piano industry.
His approach to piano technology education emphasizes the relationship between musicianship, acoustics, mechanics, and craftsmanship. Students learn not only how to perform technical procedures, but also how to listen critically, diagnose problems, understand the mechanical and acoustical systems of the piano, and make informed decisions that improve an instrument's touch, tone, stability, and musical performance.
Through the Dallas College Piano Technology Program, Dr. Soto seeks to combine the traditions of fine piano craftsmanship with modern technical education, providing students with the practical skills, professional standards, and musical understanding necessary to succeed in the piano technology profession.
